Counter Violent Extremism Coordinator

The British Embassy in Tunis is looking to recruit a Counter Violent Extremism (CVE) Coordinator, Grade B3 (L). Objective:
Deliver both policy and administrative support to Head of North Africa Counter Terrorism (CT) Hub, in support of regional CT and CVE objectives.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the Senior Management Structure (SMS) Head of the North Africa Counter Terrorist and Extremist Network (CTEN) and as part of the regional Hub in Tunis to coordinate regional network activity.

  • The jobholder will work with the Head of the CT Hub to develop a regional picture and strategic oversight of our Counter Terrorism / Counter Violent Extremism (CT/CVE) programming.
  • Work closely with the Regional CVE lead based in the Hub in Tunis, Joint International Counter-Terrorist Unit (JICTU) and FCO’s International Counter-Extremism Group (ICEG) to develop our CVE approach.
  • Responsible for building the evidence base behind the drivers of radicalisation and related factors, engaging with CVE policy leads, project implementers and partners across the region, participation in regional and London-based CVE events and activities, securing buy-in to the regional CVE approach and promoting best practice.
Administrative Tasks:
  • Provide the secretariat function for the regional CTEN programme governance arrangements.
  • Ensuring that all programmes carried out by the North Africa CTEN meet FCO’s exacting programme management standards.
  • Close co-ordination with other Posts across the region and the development of strong links with Whitehall partners, in order to ensure smooth functioning of the regional network and its delivery against JICTU strategy objectives.
  • Management of the calendar of regional events, inward and outward visits etc. and other administrative support to the Head of the Hub over travel, event organisation, etc.

Essential:
  • A grasp of the following issues: why individuals radicalize, leading to terrorist acts; how states in the North Africa region approach these issues; and why these issues matter to the UK; and how donor countries can help recipient states tackle these issues.
  • Strong communication, administrative and organisational skills
  • Ability to work comfortably in 1. English and 2. Arabic or French;
  • Flexible and able to work under pressure;
  • Strong administrative and IT skills.

[wbcr_html_snippet id="114343"] Working Hours and Remuneration: Conditioned working hours are 40 hours gross per week. Standard working hours are from 08:00 am to 16:30 pm from Monday to Thursday. 08:00 – 13:00 on Fridays. This is a full time fixed term contract for one year, with the possibility of renewal. The British Embassy in Tunisia offers an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role. Initial salary will be TND 3,498 per month while on probation. Salary after probation is TND 4,330. The successful candidate will be subject to a 90 day probationary period.
Eligibility:

Candidate must be eligible to work and reside in Tunisia immediately.
